  • Tool buttons are disabled

Q - My upload tool button and 2D tool button are both disabled. What should I do?

A - It sounds like you are a Trimble user. To enable the upload tool button, you need to install Trimble's Data Transfer program. Its a free utility that you can get from this link:

    http://www.trimble.com/datatransfer.shtml

In order to enable the 2-D button, you will need to enter zero for the number of Bin Digits in the status bar panel at the bottom.

  • Leica Transformation Sets

For the curious, here is some information about Leica transformation sets.

When QuikLoad creates a transformation set it first checks if the selected datum shift is three or seven parameter (Molodensky or Bursa Wolfe). If it is a three parameter, you will be presented with a dialog where you can specify the geoid height in the center of the job or a button will be available to compute it for you given the geoid model as specified by the project. Then, given the geocentric offsets and the geoid height, QuikLoad will calculate a new set of geocentric offsets which will exactly match the horizontal datum shift from the original set and force the ellipsoid height difference to be the geoid height. In this way, a geoid model is not required to view approximate orthometric heights in the data collector. These new parameters are then configured as a 3-D Helmert ten parameter datum shift and inserted to the job. Note that in the three parameter mode, if you specify zero as the geoid height, then the height change resulting from the datum shift becomes zero (the datum shift is pure horizontal).

In the seven parameter mode, QuikLoad does not make any changes and loads these values as a 3-D Helmert ten parameter datum shift. The assumption is that the seven parameter datum shift was chosen due to its improved ability to model height differences versus a three parameter shift; therefore, no changes are made.

The 2-D equivalent datum in System 1200 world is a six parameter 2-D Helmert datum where the geocentric offsets and rotations are specified for the X and Y axes only. To achieve a pure horizontal datum shift, you can create and use an equivalent three parameter datum from the seven parameter (our create datum at a point utility can do this automatically - see the 'To 84' and 'From 84' buttons at the bottom).

  • Batch conversion of files

Q - In QuikLoad, what am I doing wrong? For batch transformation, for the coordinate system of the output data, I select the system that I want my batch data to be transformed to. The files in the selected directory are not transformed and the datum and system in QuikLoad are now changed to the datum and system I selected for my output data. I did not get a dialog that asked for the system of the input data. Am I doing something wrong here?

A - There are four transformation scenarios:

    1) Grid In - Grid Out

    2) Grid In - Geo Out

    3) Geo In - Grid Out

    4) Geo In - Geo Out

For the first two scenarios, the input and output systems are specified in the ASCII Import dialog via the Transform Data checkbox which brings up the Transform sub-page. For case two where you want lats and lons (geos) as output, you need to specify a grid system on the target datum even though you are not interested in the grid coordinates (the correct datum is necessary for the transformation though). So, for these scenarios, QuikLoad will not prompt you for an output coordinate system as both the input and output systems/datums were specified in ASCII Import. For the ASCII Output dialog, you can specify whether you want to write just the transformed grid coordinates, geographic coordinates, or both.

For scenarios 3 and 4 (lats/lons as input), the Transform option in ASCII Import is disabled. It is important that you specify the correct datum on the Geographics sub-page in the ASCII Import dialog. Then QuikLoad will prompt you for an output coordinate system (grid is required). As before, for the ASCII Output dialog, you can specify whether you want to write just the transformed grid coordinates, geographic coordinates, or both. Note that you can always restore the project geodetic settings in QuikLoad via Preferences-Restore Geo Data.

QuikLoad FAQs

  • Can't upload Trimble files

Q - We have a TSC2 with 12.1 version software. We have created 12.1 ver. DC files in Quikload , then connect to the TSC2 and are getting a transfer error telling us it's the wrong version.

A - Data Transfer is a Trimble application. QuikLoad simply launches this application (as does QuikView). We would suggest that you visit Trimble's web site and download and install the latest version of Data Transfer. You can also run Data Transfer as a stand-alone application outside of GPSeismic via the Start menu. By the way, the following is copied directly from Trimble's Survey Controller v12.1 release notes'

'The Trimble Survey Controller software version 12.10 uses a version 10.7 DC file.'

This is why QuikLoad creates a version 10.7 DC file when you choose to create version 12.1. The problem you refer to is almost always solved by downloading and installing the latest version of Data Transfer from Trimble's web site:

  • Trimble Data Transfer Error

Data Transfer is a Trimble application. QuikLoad simply launches this application as does QuikView. We would suggest that you visit Trimble's web site and download and install the latest version of Data Transfer. Also, keep your file names simple. We have discovered that long names and some special characters can generate an error in that application.
