  • What are the capabilities?

GPNav is a mapping tool which supports up to 100 map layers (which can be comprised of point, line and polygon SHP files, DXF, DGN and DWG Cad files, or TIFF, JPG and BMP raster images).GPNav also supports real time tracking using either NEMA $GPGGA or Trimble GGK serial inputs. A second comm port optionally allows for a NMEA $HCDM or $PTNHTM magnetic heading message. A third port can be opened for inputting a NMEA $SDDBS depth message. A fourth port can be opened which represents a secondary NMEA $GPGGA position or you may define a secondary position by offsets from the primary GPS position. You can log on an incoming serial comms event or you may send pre-log and at-log serial events out. You may also relay the primary position to a separate port. There is the capability of looking for several inputs on one port. There is an embedded simulator which can be used for training and configuration purposes.

  • How can I use the simulator?

    1) Create an empty folder and place the GPSeismic_GPNav_backup.gbk file in it. This file is located in the GPSeismic/Sample Data/GPTrack folder.

    2) Start GPNav and from the Utilities menu, select 'Restore/Open Portable Backup'. Select the attached file you saved to your hard disk.

    3) You should now see a map and a prompt for re-saving the map file. Say YES and go to the folder you created in step 1 and re-save the 'GPNav.map' file. This is required in order to redefine the paths to the various files that make up the path.

    4) Select 'Track (simulated)' from the Utilities menu. You will see a vehicle moving around and this will continue until you select 'Stop Tracking' in the File menu.

When tracking simulated, anything can be changed. The program actually behaves as if were tracking a real position. The only difference is that if you start using heavy filtering, there will be some odd position movements as the simulator re-starts.

Once you stop tracking, you can always go back into simulated mode by selecting 'Track (simulated)' from the Utilities menu. A common mistake is to select Track from the File menu. Do this, and it opens up the currently selected serial port and looks for a position.

If you shut down the application and restart, select 'Open Map' from the File menu and you will be back to where you were right before exiting the application except you must select 'Track (simulated)' from the Utilities menu to get that going again.
